An FBI agent apparently shot and killed a Montgomery County kidnapping victim during a predawn operation in northeast Houston, according to law enforcement sources.
Law enforcement - including Houston police officers - were still outside the home in the 7300 block of Elbert Street in the Trinity Gardens area late Thursday morning.
Christina Garza, a public affairs specialist with the FBI in Houston, said agents were conducting an "operation" at the home around 3:40 a.m., when the man, who has not been named, was shot.
An FBI agent fatally shot a man during a predawn operation in northeast Houston, an agency spokeswoman confirmed. Law enforcement - including Houston Police officers - were still outside the home in the 7300 block of Elbert Street in the Trinity Gardens area late Thursday morning.
Media: Houston ChronicleHe was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Garza said.
The man had been kidnapped in the Montgomery County area a day earlier, according to the sources. The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the operation's alleged connection to the earlier kidnapping.
A Houston Police Department spokesperson told the Chronicle that officers were initially asked to assist at the location, which is on a city street, but that HPD had no role in the FBI operation.
One neighbor, Monique McKnight, said two adults and two young children live in the home. McKnight said she was questioned by investigators, who mostly asked about the children living in the home.
Garza said that, per FBI policy, the agent who killed the man will be placed on administrative leave while the agency conducts an internal investigation.
Another neighbor, who declined to give her name, told the Chronicle that she heard at least four gunshots sometime last night.
She said she grew up on the street, and that "everybody gets along."
