The shooter in a South Daytona carjacking case which led to viral video of a teenage girl's sentencing has been arrested, police said Thursday.
Kendrick Bass, 17, was arrested in Daytona Beach on charges of carjacking, attempted carjacking and aggravated battery with a firearm, said South Daytona Police Chief Ron Wright.
The case led to a 20-year prison sentence for the suspect's unarmed accomplice — a female high school student — which sparked widespread outcry after a video of the girl's and mother's emotional reactions to the sentence went viral.
Bass is accused of shooting Immanuel "Manny" Pursel, 17, twice during the March 22, 2017 carjacking on Slayton Avenue, according to police. Pursel survived.
Police originally arrested Ky'Andrea Cook, who was 18 at the time. Detectives said Cook used a social app to lure Pursel and another male to South Daytona that night with the promise of marijuana and sex, but the pair was actually being set up for a carjacking.
Bass, 16 at the time, jumped into the vehicle and fired two shots, police said.
Cook's 20-year sentence was withdrawn. She re-entered her no contest plea during a hearing earlier this month and she is awaiting sentencing.
