Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputies searched for a possible suspect related to a stolen vehicle into the early hours of Thursday morning.
On Wednesday night, LCSO deputies located a stolen vehicle near Crossroads Boulevard and Centerra Parkway in Loveland, LCSO Lt. Ian Steward said. The driver fled, and deputies chose not to pursue.
Later in the evening, Windsor Police Department officers located the vehicle near Weld County Road 74 and Highway 257 in a rural area outside Windsor. The driver of the car told officers there was a second suspect in the car who fled with a gun. Law enforcement officers took the report seriously and searched the area, Stewart said.
Windsor police — aided by Weld County Sheriff's Office deputies and Colorado State Patrol Troopers — shut down a section of County Road 74 on Wednesday and into the early morning hours Thursday.
They were aided by two K9 units, but law enforcement officers did not locate the reported second suspect. However, they arrested the driver of the car and do not believe there is an outstanding threat to public safety, Stewart said.
The incident was unrelated to the manhunt underway in Adams County, where a sheriff's deputy was shot and killed while responding to a call of an assault-in-progress and where two suspects are still believed to be at large.
