Annawan cools off Heat

Jayde Vanhyfte, a senior all-state forward and the leading scorer in school history, scored 29 points to lead the Annawan High School girls basketball team to a 63-39 victory over West Central in a Lincoln Trail Conference game on Wednesday at Biggsville, Illinois.

Annawan, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, led 26-2 after one quarter and 45-11 at halftime. Kaley Jackson added nine points for the Bravettes, while Keagan Rico finished with eight points.

Corrine Booton led the Heat with 14 points, while Jessica Smith added nine points.

West Central plays Mercer County on Monday at Aledo, Illinois.

Girls basketball

Keokuk 47, West Hancock 35

Michenna Davis scored 17 points and Michaela Davis added 10 more to lead the Chiefs to victory at Warsaw, Ill.

Erin Kindig and Jakayla Hall each scored six points for Keokuk. Emma Knipe led West Hancock with 12 points. Kailee Pfeiferling scored nine and Krisama Greer and Lexi Carel each added four.

Boys basketball

BHS freshmen fall twice

Burlington High School's dropped two games this week, losing to Pleasant Valley 45-28 Monday and to Davenport Central 50-40 on Tuesday.

Cayson Shipp led the Graypups against Pleasant Valley with 12 points. Anakin Kelly scored 11 to pace the Pups against Central. The Graypups (10-6) host  Bettendorf Thursday.
