Sanchez left Arsenal on Monday to join Manchester United, in a deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move in the other direction.

The final months of the Chilean’s time at the Emirates were overshadowed with claims his relationship with his team-mates was fractious.

And Elneny hinted at Sanchez’s lack of commitment in a post on Twitter celebrating Arsenal sealing a place in the Carabao Cup final.

In a picture of the Arsenal players celebrating Granit Xhaka’s goals, Elneny tweeted: “Now there are players fighting every minute for the logo and the fans #WeAreTheArsenal Wembley time.”

Arsenal fans gleefully reacted to Elneny’s post with one fan calling him a “Legend”.

Another supporter wrote: “Well said @ElNennyM.”

One person said: “Shows the lads didnt get along with alexis. Change room must have been toxic.”

And another tweeted: “Play for the name on the front of the shirt and the fans will remember the name on the back. Something Sanchez never understood.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been more careful with his response to Sanchez’s exit, saying they lost a great player.

"We lost a great player," Wenger told Sky Sports. 

"But when a team doesn't know what's going on there is less clarity and less focus on what's important - the performance.

"Now we know we have to deal with that and get on by everybody giving a little bit more."
