Two men jailed 12 months for possessing fake RM100 notes

TAWAU: Two men were sentenced to 12 months' jail by the magistrate's court here today after they pleaded guilty to possessing counterfeit RM100 notes on Jan 11.

Mohd Rafiq Chin Abdullah, 48, pleaded guilty to possessing 10 pieces of counterfeit RM100 notes before magistrate Ferhansha Farene Mohd Ferdaus while Sim Kee Fah, 29, pleaded guilty to having in his possession five pieces of fake RM100 notes before magistrate Mohammad Faisal Che Saad.

According to the charge sheet, Mohd Rafiq and Sim were detained at Jalan Bombalai-Tawau at 5.31pm on Jan 11, and were found to have possessed 10 and five pieces of RM100 notes, respectively, which were later confirmed as fake by Bank Negara Malaysia Kota Kinabalu branch, with the intention of using them.

The offence under Section 489C of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years, if convicted.

The prosecution for Mohd Rafiq's case was conducted by prosecuting officer ASP Dayang Nur Azarinahwaty Ag Kachee, while prosecuting officer ASP Nur Intan Jamrin appeared for Sim's case. — Bernama
