False call leads to arrest of man wanted on a warrant

A Cambridge man wanted for failure to appear in court is behind bars after another man falsely reported being kidnapped and held at a Lakeside Drive home early Thursday morning.

Cambridge police officers served Wesley D. Giesey, 40, with the warrant issued by the Cambridge Municipal Court. He remained incarcerated in the Guernsey County Jail as of press time.

The man who falsely reported being kidnapped was transported to Southeastern Med for treatment after confessing to smoking methamphetamine several hours before his report of being kidnapped.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the unidentified male outside prior to the arrival of officers.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the home in the 600 block of Lakeside Drive at 1:16 a.m. today after the man claimed he was kidnapped.

On arrival, police located the alleged victim sitting on the floor at the bottom of stairs inside the building. He was not being held against his will and reportedly confessed to smoking "meth" three hours before officers arrived at the scene.

He was transported to Southeastern Med by United Ambulance. A nursing supervisor at the hospital said the man was treated in the emergency department and later released from the hospital.

Officers spoke with the resident of the Lakeside Drive home and he denied knowing the unidentified male. When asked who else was in the apartment, the man reportedly replied, "Wes."

A check of Wes’ full name revealed he was Wesley D. Giesey, whom officers knew was wanted on a warrant. A police dispatcher confirmed the warrant and Giesey was taken into custody.

Giesey was transported to the county jail and will appear in the Cambridge Municipal Court to answer to the warrant.

The incident remained under investigation by Cambridge police.
