LOST SPRINGS — It’s a game the Elyria Christian School boys basketball team will never forget.

With an undefeated season on the line, the top-ranked Eagles withstood a furious attack from upset-minded Centre High School Saturday in the Centre Invitational championship. Elyria needed four overtimes to defeat the host team, 60-57.

Four Eagles played over 35 minutes of action, while many others exceeded their season average in minutes.

“We showed some grit and the boys battled tonight,” head coach Zach Goodrich said. “It was everything you want in a championship game.”

Three starters fouled out for Elyria, but Aidan Fields, who played nearly 43 minutes, kept the Eagles in the game with a team-high 18 points.

Goodrich also gave credit to Tyler Huxman, who scored 11 points in over 35 minutes of action.

“We grew this week,” Goodrich said, “having to play three games in three days is tough, but I believe our boys came together and learned how to make adjustments from game to game without any practice time.”

The Eagles will enjoy the week off from competition and pick things back up again on Friday when they travel to Herington.
