Int’l conference on Bengal Studies begins at JU

A four-day international conference titled ‘5th International Congress of Bengal Studies’ begins on Thursday on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus.

 

International Society of Bangla Studies (ISBS) in association with JU Bangla department organized this conference for the fifth time in a row.

 

JU Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the conference as the chief guest at Zahir Raihan auditorium at 11.30 am.

 

Addressing the programme, JU VC said, ‘Bengali language and literature achieved a special status in the world’.

 

Presided over by President of ISBS, Bangladesh Chapter, Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University Anisuzzaman, the inaugural session was addressed as special guest by JU pro-VC (academic) professor Md Abu Hossain and Treasurer professor Sheikh Md Monzurul Huq.

 

Bengali researchers from around 20 countries are taking part at the conference.

 

The four-day conference is featured with inaugural session, academic session, keynote session, concluding session and cultural events.

 

A total of 31 research papers were presented on the first day of the conference.


The conference will end on January 28.
