Two Michigan State Police officers, a detective sergeant and trooper, were shot today while executing a search warrant related to a cold case investigation in Branch County's Union Township.
When troopers announced their presence prior to making entry into the home, a person there leveled a long gun at the officers, police said. Officers were attempting to take cover when the detective sergeant was shot in the chest and a trooper received a grazing wound to the hand.
The detective sergeant was taken to the hospital. Updates about the officer's condition are currently unavailable.
A state police emergency support team is at the scene of the shooting. A suspect has not been taken into custody, but is believed to be confined to the property.
