Data of 100,000 Bell Canada customers were stolen by cyber-criminals during the second data breach at the operator in eight months, writes FinancialPost.com. The operator said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is actively investigating the incident and that it cooperates with police, government and industry partners to combat cyber-crime. On 23 January, the company sent emails to affected customers in which Bell’s EVP of customer experience John Watson said additional security authentication and identification requirements were placed on their accounts. Customers received recommendations to change passwords and security questions frequently and regularly review accounts for suspicious activity.

In a previous hacking attack from May 2017, hackers stole around 1.9 million active email addresses, 1,700 customer names and phone numbers.
