Good morning and welcome to need-to-know! Here are the stories we think you should know headed into Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018:

1. No tests in school? A sixth-grade teacher is trying it out in Mitchell.

2. Some Mitchell residents are dealing with on-again, off-again water availability, as a main has broken multiple times since Saturday.

3. The Dakota Wesleyan women topped No. 6-ranked Jamestown on Wednesday night.

4. And the DWU men are preparing for a key six-game stretch to push toward the national tournament.

5. A new bill would allow the Department of Corrections to grant inmates "earned discharge credit" to shorten an inmate's sentence.

BONUS: Our editorial board says the city's 2018 priorities should be finding a clear direction for Lake Mitchell and improving infrastructure.
