The player toiled following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

And the Manchester Evening News say Jose Mourinho was never convinced.

He wanted to offload him after just six months but the player’s improvement in form changed his mind.

The Independent say the club think reports he is pocketing £500,000 a week is well off the mark.

Instead, they claim the figure is closer to £300,000.

That is because they did not want anyone to earn more than Paul Pogba who, at £89million, is their most expensive player of all time. 

Mourinho makes double transfer decision

That's what the Independent are saying, with the Red Devils boss impressed by the form of Luke Shaw.

United were keen to sign one of Alex Sandro or Danny Rose.

But Mourinho thinks Shaw, with Ashley Young as his deputy, will suffice.

Seri battle
