CM mulls insurance for newborn girls, a great step

The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat launched Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana and Vashnavi Kit on the occasion of National Girl Child Day at IRTD Auditorium here on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said women of the State should contribute in the development of the Uttarakhand enthusiastically.

He said that the State Government is mulling over a proposal to start an insurance scheme for newborn girls if insurance companies agree with the idea.

 The CM lauded the effort of Pithoragarh for improving sex ratio. He said that the efforts by District Administration and Woman and Child Development Department have resulted in improvement in the sex ratio from 813 to 93 in the district. He added that Government is specially focusing on five districts to improve the sex ratio. The CM informed that a health insurance scheme for 27 lakh families of the state would soon be launched. Emphasising on menstrual hygiene Rawat expressed concern on the fact that only 18 percent of women the country use sanitary napkins. He was of the view that that education and awareness would help improving things in this regard.
