A fire in a garage shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday in on Burlington's north side caused about $25,000 in damage to the building and its contents.

Burlington Fire Marshal Mark Crooks said firefighters were dispatched about 8:51 a.m. to a reported garage fire at 1105 Spring St..

"Upon arrival three minutes later, firefighters discovered flames and smoke coming from a detached 2 1/2 car garage," Crooks said. "The fire had burned up into the enclosed rafters and was difficult to get to due to the large amount of storage."

Crooks said the fire was declared extinguished at 10:05 a.m.

He reported no injuries in the blaze

Ronald and Margret Kienast, the owners of the garage, were inside their house at the time of the fire and were alerted to it by people knocking on their door, Crooks said.

Damage is estimated to be $15,000 to the garage and $10,000 to contents. The garage is insured, he said.

"The investigation into the cause of the fire in ongoing and is not considered suspicious," Crooks said.

Fourteen Burlington firefighters responded to the call and were assisted by three West Burlington firefighters responding on automatic aid. Superior Ambulance also assisted at the scene. Firefighters remained on the scene until 11:08 a.m.
