Chelsea have failed with Edin Dzeko bid - Roma chief Monchi reveals why

CHELSEA have failed with their first offer for Edin Dzeko, Roma director of football Monchi has claimed.

Chelsea's initial bid for Edin Dzeko was not high enough, Monchi has claimed

Chelsea are in the market for a new combative striker and have been linked with a host of target men.

West Ham’s Andy Carroll and Stoke’s Peter Crouch have been mooted, as well as Roma front man Edin Dzeko.

The former Manchester City striker is said to be part of a double deal with the Stamford Bridge club, including full-back Emerson Palmieri.

However,  director of football Monchi has claimed Chelsea’s initial bid for Dzeko has not been enough to tempt them into selling.

“We are ready to listen and then we decide,” he said.

“Now Dzeko is here and the rest doesn't matter, which means what we've received so far wasn't acceptable.

“I don't know what personal terms were offered to the player, as I am not his agent.

“I am talking about Roma - an offer arrives, we look at it and then decide.”

Chelsea are said to be well underway with negotiations with Dzeko’s agent Irfan Redzepagic.

to iron out a contract for the 31-year-old.

With two years remaining on his contract at Roma, the striker reportedly wants the Blues to at least match his current terms.

However, Chelsea’s one-year contract policy for players over 30 is thought to be complicating negotiations.

Dzeko is said to have asked to be paid £118,000 a week if he signs until 2020 or £84,000 for a longer deal until 2021.
