In a first, the Congress president will not be sitting in the first row during the Republic Day parade at Rajpath tomorrow.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, according to sources, will instead be sitting in the fourth row. The government's decision to not allot a front row seat to the Congress president, said sources, has left the party workers fuming.

Rahul Gandhi, however, will attend the 69th Republic Day celebrations tomorrow.

In the past, the Congress president has always got a front row seat for the Republic Day parade at Rajpath, whether the party was in power or in Opposition.

According to sources, BJP president Amit Shah, who was recently elected to Rajya Sabha, has been given a front row seat for the Republic Day parade.

The Congress has 46 MPs in Lok Sabha and is the largest Opposition party in the House.

For the first time, India is hosting 10 chief guests for the Republic Day parade this year. Heads of all ASEAN member states will witness the celebrations tomorrow.
