Reaching 60-GW wind target before 2022 well in sight: Tanti

India is likely to breach the 60-GW wind capacity target way sooner than 2022, according to Tulsi Tanti, chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA). The comments come in on the back of the fact that the country has already reached an installed wind power capacity of 32 GW, placing it ahead of the 30-GW target that the government set for fiscal 2017/18. Tanti, founder and chairman of Suzlon Energy Ltd, took the post of IWTMA’s chairman on January 11. “The wind industry is determined and focused on enabling India’s energy security, affordable energy for all and transition to a low-carbon economy,” Tanti commented. Thrust on renewable energy in India has “created room to unlock 300-GW wind energy potential, Tanti added. The Indian government aims to reach 100 GW of solar and 60 GW of wind power capacity by 2022.
