Viswanathan Anand returned to winning ways by beating England’s Gawain Jones in 40 moves after Shakhriyar Mamedyarov joined Anish Giri in the lead following the 10th round of the Tata Steel chess tournament here on Wednesday.
With three rounds to go after Thursday’s rest day, Anand moved to the fifth spot with six points. Anish Giri and Mamedyarov head the table at seven points, followed by a victorious Vladimir Kramnik, on 6.5 points.
B. Adhiban was engaged in an interesting battle with Hou Yifan.
In the challenger section, Vidit Gujrathi and Anton Korobov stayed in the lead at seven points after being involved in drawn encounters.
In the battle featuring two ladies, D. Harika and Russian Olga Girya were moving towards sharing the point.
