Mumbai Crime: 32-year-old former employee of film studio steals from office to recover dues

On Wednesday, Amboli Police arrested a 32-year-old former employee of The Red Bulb Studios, for stealing valuables worth Rs 1.40 lakh from the production house office in Andheri. The production company is owned by Marathi actor Prarthana Behere and her producer-director husband Abhishek Jawkar.
According to a report by Mid-Day, the accused during interrogation has claimed that he stole those valuables, as he wanted to recover his pending dues. The 32-year-old man is identified as Sanket Gawali, who is from Ahmednagar. Sanket was working with the company for two years, and had left the job on December 1, to start his own business.
The Incident
Sanket came to Mumbai on January 23 and in the early hours of the day went to studios office. He was then let in by the office boy, and when the office boy went to washroom he stole washroom, he stole a laptop, camera, lens and a hard disc worth Rs 1.40 lakh.
After stealing, Sanket fled away from the studio. Sanket also knew that the office is surrounded by CCTV cameras, so before the crime, he smartly he switched off the CCTV cameras.
The police complaint
The owners of the studio got to know about the incident and tried calling Sanket, but he didn’t answer any of their calls. However, the office was able to get in touch with Sanket, to whom he told that he will return those stolen items, but he did not return those valuables back.
The couple then approached the Amboli police station to lodge a complaint against Sanket. After this, cops registered an FIR against Sanket, and after investigation, police traced Sanket to the hotel in Belapur. Then, the police arrested Sanket and recovered the stolen items from him.
A police official told the leading daily that the accused has been booked under Section 380 of IPC. After being produced in court, Sanket was sent to police custody.
