Governor lauds T.N.’s higher education system

Access to quality education not only impacts individuals and their families, but also the economic well-being and prospects of a country, Consul General, U.S. Consulate, Robert G. Burgess said here Wednesday.

Speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Alpha Group of Institutions, he said, “The past year, 1.8 lakh students came to the U.S. to study. Whether it is to pursue education or to discuss ideas and challenges, the partnership will benefit both Americans and Indians alike,” Mr. Burgess said.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit said education should focus on inculcating oral values and national spirit in students, and Tamil Nadu, by virtue of its excellent infrastructure in higher education was well placed to become a model for other States.

Grace George, chairperson of Alpha Group of Institutions, recollected how the school had a humble beginning in 1967 with just 14 children and grown to have thousands of students.

Mahesh D. Dharmadhikari, joint secretary and regional officer, Central Board of Secondary Education said, “The true value of the teacher is not determined by what he knows or his ability to impart what he knows, but his ability to stimulate in others the desire to know.”
