“I am neither a rightist nor leftist, but on a mission propelled by people’s thoughts to bring about social change for realising the aspirations of youth and downtrodden sections of society,” said Jana Sena president and film actor Pawan Kalyan.

He said he was prepared to bear criticism and even physical attacks to carry forward the social mission, guided by the ideals of great leaders like Dr. B R Ambedkar, Jyotiba Phule, Periyar and Kanshiram.

Addressing a well-attended meeting of Jana Sena Party cadres from Khammam, Nalgonda and Warangal districts here on Wednesday, he said one of his missions was to mitigate the menace of fluorosis in Nalgonda district.

“Some undesirable political elements had created obstacles to my endeavour to adopt some fluorosis-affected villages in Nalgonda district in 2009. It is my ambition to find a lasting solution,” he said.

In an apparent rebuttal of criticism of his Telangana tour by the Congress leaders, he said: “I am not partial towards any political party and I don’t have any individual grudge against any leader. I am driven by people’s thoughts and committed to work towards social change.”

I am not claiming that I would create miracles, but determined to stand by people in pursuit of social change till my last breath, the film star turned politician said amid rapturous applause.

Telangana State is hardly over three-and-a-half years old and all the political parties should focus on developing the new State on all fronts, he suggested.

The enthusiastic party cadres mainly youngsters burst into loud claps when Mr Pawan touched the feet of a woman social worker and greeted a physically challenged dancer on the dais.

Earlier, Mr Pawan arrived in Khammam from Kothagudem where he stayed overnight at the Yellandu guest house.

Commotion prevailed at Gopalapuram near Khammam when a sub-inspector of police reportedly sustained a fracture of the toe after his left leg came under the wheels of a car in the film star’s cavalcade. The injured SI was rushed to a hospital in Khammam.

Commotion

Commotion prevailed during the car rally of the Jana Sena chief when an unidentified person hurled footwear on the car carrying him from Kothagudem to Khammam on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when Mr Pawan emerged out of the open-top car to wave to fans lined up on either side of the main road at Thallada. The footwear landed on the bonnet of the car avoiding an embarrassing situation.

The police and the private security personnel accompanying Mr Pawan were taken aback by the unexpected incident. Mr Pawan’s cavalcade then proceeded towards Khammam soon after the incident under tight security arrangements.

A stampede-like situation prevailed at Thallada crossroads when scores of ardent fans of the film star tried to rush onto the road in a bid to take selfies with their favourite actor amid loud slogans. The police struggled to control some of the boisterous fans who exhibited over-enthusiasm.
