THE civil engineering firm behind some of the most high-profile recent rail projects in Scotland has unveiled a plan to double turnover north of the Border to £40 million.
Carlisle-based Story Construction has rebranded its Uddingston-based division as Story Scotland and plans to widen its remit from rail projects to include construction and plant hire.
Story Scotland is led by John MacArthur and employs 52 staff. It has been renamed “to make it clear that the business has a dedicated team based in Scotland, employing people around Scotland and working on Scotland contracts”.

The company has worked on a series of high-profile projects in the rail sector, including the £5m Queen Street tunnel track slab replacement in Glasgow for Morgan Sindall and the £2.5m Stirling station canopy replacement for Network Rail.
Mr MacArthur said: “We have experienced strong growth in the rail sector over the past three years, delivering a significant volume of challenging civil engineering projects. We have great appreciation for the clients and contractors who have supported Story in Scotland and we have purposely focussed on using local companies to help grow our business, while creating local employment opportunities.”
The wider Story Contracting business was established by Fred Story in 1987. It has revenues of £120m a year.
