Revelries mark Netaji Jayanti in Cuttack

The 121st birth anniversary of legendary freedom-fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated across the State on Tuesday while the occasion was especially observed with pomp and gaiety with several functions held at his birthplace in Cuttack city.

 Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and many other dignitaries joined thousands of Netaji lovers in offering floral tributes to the exceptional and celebrated freedom fighter at the Netaji Birthplace Museum at Odia Bazaar here. Netaji was born here on this day in 1897 and completed his school education in the city before leaving for Kolkata in 1914 for higher education. His birthplace Janakinath Bhawan, a double-storied building with 24 rooms, was converted into a national museum in 2004.

Blood donation camps, Padayatra, cycle rallies, art exhibitions and various competitions for schoolchildren and garlanding the statues of Netaji marked the day in Cuttack city in which students and youths participated enthusiastically in large numbers.
