In a shocking incident, a group of people in Meerut first publicly warned a mother and son to not appear as witnesses in a murder case and then shot them dead. Three people barged inside the house of the elderly Nicchettar Kaur on Wednesday and fired ten rounds from a gun into her, killing her on the spot in the Partapur area of Meerut.
Soon thereafter, the trio also killed Ms. Kaur’s son Balwinder. The CCTV recording of the ruthless murder of an old woman has gone viral. The mother and son were the main witnesses in the murder Ms. Kaur’s husband Narendra in October 2016 over a land dispute. The accused belong to the same locality of Partapur. While one of them, Malu, is in jail, the rest are absconding.
Ms. Kaur and Mr. Balwinder were to testify in the ongoing trial in the coming days. The accused had threatened them that they would not be allowed to reach the court at any cost.
The brazen double murder led to protests by residents of the area.
Additional Director General (ADG)-law and order, Anand Kumar, told mediapersons that one accused has been arrested and administrative action was being taken immediately against negligent police personnel. Partapur Station House Officer (SHO) and four others have been suspended for administrative lapses.
