A Twitter user posted a photograph Wednesday that allegedly shows a U.S. soldier killed last year during an ambush in Niger.

U.S. Africa Command said it was examining the post and its claim that the image and associated video were released by jihadists.

One tweet contains an image of what appears to be a U.S. soldier lying in the dirt. The soldier is wearing a combat uniform and had a U.S. flag patch. Four Army special operations soldiers were killed on Oct. 4 when their convoy was overrun by Islamic State-affiliated fighters in West Africa, where elite U.S. troops are working with local forces to stop the spread of terror groups.

The Washington Examiner obscured a part of the photo showing the body.

“We are reviewing the post and determining the veracity of the tweet and the assertions that there is an associated video,” Africa Command said in a statement. “We cannot comment further on this issue, or the ongoing investigation related to the Oct. 4 ambush until the investigation is complete.”
