Indore: No change in pattern of DET-2018: VC

Indore: While classes for coursework of candidates cleared doctoral entrance test (DET) held in August have started, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya on Friday announced plans to hold next entrance test in February. “The test will tentatively be held in last week of February,” vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad told reporters. He said that the pattern of exams will remain the same. “The format of DET-2018 will be like that of DET-2017.”

“Entrance test for management and commerce subjects would be computer-based and for the remaining subjects exam pattern would be held in pencil and paper format,” said Dhakad. In September last year, the DAVV had announced that DET-2018 would be held only in online mode but now it has changed the plan. “We changed the idea after learning that the number of candidates in subjects other than management and commerce remains less. If the candidates are less then there is no need for online exam,” said Dhakad.

As very lesser number of students cleared DET held in August, many seats in PhD and MPhil programmes are still vacant which will be filled through DET-2018. The VC said that they would soon ask PhD guides to reveal number of vacancies with them so that the same could be advertised. The applications are likely to be invited in first week of February.

Test will not be held on time

As per University Grants Commission (UGC) norms, the DET should be conducted twice in an academic year but the DAVV could not meet this norm for the past two years.

Reason?

Coordination committee, the apex body of higher education in the state, delayed its nod to the proposed amendments in PhD ordinance. After the committee approved the amendments in DAVV organised DET last month. The vice chancellor stated that PhD aspirants would have to suffer due to delay in DET.
