In the wake of recent murder of a Principal of a private school in Yamunanagar, Federation of Private School Association, Haryana has called for a statewide bandh by private schools in the state on January 30.

A class XII student of the Swami Vivekanand Public School in Yamunanagar had last week shot dead his school Principal Ritu Chhabra while she was in her office. The student was later handed over to the police. Following the incident, the Federation of Private School Association has demanded a policy for safety of principals, teachers, managements and non-teaching staff of the private schools in Haryana.

“The State Government’s non serious attitude towards the safety of teachers, principals, management, drivers along with non teaching staff has forced us to call for a bandh,” said state president of the federation, Kulbhushan Sharma.

Haryana Progressive Scholars Conference, Yamunanagar Private School Association, Panchkula Public School Association also called for the bandh.

The leaders of associations said that the objective of observing bandh is to raise their demand  of framing a safety law in favour of teaching fraternity. In this regard, each district unit will be submitting memorandum to their respective Deputy Commissioners, they said.

Kulbhushan said, while advocating the laws for students, the interests of the teachers’ fraternity are being ruined. For any mishap in the school, principal and management are held responsible and without any thorough investigations, they are send behind the bars, he alleged.
