Detroit • When you need a crunchtime shot, you could do worse than Joe Ingles.

The 30-year-old forward had the game-tying layup to force overtime against the Detroit Pistons, then had a pair of 3-pointers in overtime to seal a 98-95 road win for the Utah Jazz.

The Jazz (20-28) were able to overcome a monstrous performance from Pistons center Andre Drummond, who had 30 points and 23 rebounds. Utah improved to 2-0 in overtime games this season.

Fresh off an All Star snub, Drummond surged late for the Pistons: He had seven straight points to flip a one-point Jazz lead into an 85-79 Detroit advantage with 3 1/2 minutes left. After a Tobias Harris 3-pointer, the Jazz trailed by nine points — the Pistons’ biggest lead of the night.

But then came a rally: Joe Johnson scored two baskets and helped bring Utah within a point. After Drummond hit one free throw at the line, the Jazz were given the ball down two with 11.2 seconds left. Ingles tied up the game at 89 with a layup off an inbounds play, leaving 4.5 seconds on the clock.

On Detroit’s own inbounds play, Luke Kennard — the No. 12 draft pick ahead of Mitchell — had a look from the 3-point line that was off the mark.

The game was close throughout, as the teams were just a point apart after three quarters, with the Jazz leading 65-64. It was a muddy pace: Both squads were shooting roughly 40 percent to that point.
