Skippers seek Number 2 vs Falcons

MANILA, Philippines — Marinerong Pilipino hopes to come out strong coming off a long break as it shoots for the solo lead against a debuting Akari-AdU at resumption of the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig today.

The Skippers, who barely got past the Zark’s Burgers-Lyceum Jawbreakers, 94-92, in last week’s inaugurals, take on the Falcons at 5 p.m., looking for a second win and a break off an early tie with the Go for Gold, Che’Lu-SSC and  Wangs-Letran’s sides.

“It (first win) means nothing. We need to keep on working. We need to get better everyday because everybody is going to prepare against us. Good thing we were able to get some experience since our problem is our cohesiveness,” said Marinero coach Koy Banal.

Meanwhile, Zark’s Burgers hopes to score a follow-up to its 37-point rout of Batangas-Emilio Aguinaldo College last Tuesday as it tangles with AMA Online Education at 3 p.m.

“We just have to keep on doing what we’re doing. We don’t know what AMA will do. That’s what we don’t have control of. What we have control of is how we are going to prepare against them,” said Jawbreakers coach Topex Robinson.
