Hooliganism in the name of protesting the release of controversial movie Padmaavat witnessed in the heart of the State capital at Jyoti talkies square.
The so-called Karni Sena activists gathered there and continued rioting for around one and a half hours at the main square, but no police action was taken against them. A car was torched at the square and during the whole episode, the police officials remained mute spectators. A police outpost situated right at the square did not take any action to control the rampaging mob. The protesters also harassed the passersby stopping their vehicles and holding up the traffic for more than one hour.
However, defending the role of the police, SP Bhopal (South) Rahul Kumar Lodha said that the police have managed to keep the protest peaceful at five places in the State capital on Wednesday, and the only incident of the torching of a car was due to some anti-social elements among the protestors.
Five persons have been detained and investigation has been started regarding their role and case would be registered, he added. SP Kumar further said that the car was without passengers and belonged to one of the protestors.
The protests were also witnessed at Aura Mall, Ashima Mall, Polytechnic, Board office square. The protestors distributed memoranda related to their protest.
The owner of the theater hall informed on Tuesday that movie would not be screened.
On the question of law and order situation on the day of release, SP Kumar said that every pocket of sensitive area would be kept on vigil.
The protestors during their protest at the CM house declared that they would do something big to make their protest register and impact in a bigger manner.
Police personnel were seen maintaining the traffic at the nearby squares after the protest went violent and the traffic was diverted for some time creating problems for the commuters.
The protestors have been protesting for the past 4-5 days at different places in the State capital.
