SEYMOUR – Erika (Jagstadt) Thomas, 82, beloved wife of the late Carl P. Thomas, entered peaceful rest on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, in her home.
Born in Germany on Jan. 27, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Christoph and Emma Jagstadt. Following the post World War II era, in 1964, she immigrated to America and became a U.S. citizen shortly thereafter. She initially spoke no English but taught herself by watching American television and trying to converse with her neighbors. These neighbors would become her “lifelong friends.”
Erika will be fondly remembered as a wildlife keeper, a loving housewife, a devoted mother to her children and, being a hearty German, her love of beer.
Survivors include her beloved children, Caroline Spaulding and her husband, Ralph, of Seymour, Karl Jagstadt and his wife, Dolores, of Georgia, and Peter Thomas and his wife, Janet, of Naugatuck; and six cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah, Kurt, Amanda, Nathan and Erika-Emma.
A prayer service celebrating her life will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. at Ralph Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church St., Seymour. Friends are invited to greet the family from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please make a charitable donation to ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929; or Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741, in her name.
