The city woke up to a chill in the air on Wednesday as the temperature dropped to 15.4 degrees Celsius.
The Santacruz observatory recorded minimum temperature of 15.4 degrees Celsius, while Colaba recorded 19 degrees. The maximum temperatures also came down to 28 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, down from 32 degrees the previous day.
The temperature was marginally lower than the forecast of 16 degrees Celsius, said officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Until Tuesday, the weather had been consistently on the rise since January 8, the season’s coldest day at 13.6 degrees Celsius.
“The drop in temperature is due to western disturbances, due to which dry and cold northerly winds are blowing across coastal and interior regions of Maharashtra. The city can expect the temperature to hover in the same range in the next 48 hours,” said K.S. Hosalikar, deputy director general (western region) IMD, Mumbai. Mr. Hosalikar said temperature is expected to rise at the start of February.
