A 33-year-old woman is in custody in Sydney's west after she allegedly fatally stabbed her 61-year-old mother.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene after 6:00am.
The older woman was found inside the home with stab wounds in Pegler Avenue, Granville, and died at the scene.
The younger woman, who police understand is daughter of the deceased, was arrested at a bus stop nearby and taken to Granville Police Station.
Shocked neighbours gathered around the cordoned-off street while detectives door-knocked nearby homes.
Neighbour Wird Taouk heard a "very high scream" this morning coming from the house.
"I went to see the girl because she's sick, I know," Ms Taouk said.
"When I came here I saw all the police around."
Another neighbour who asked not to be named said she was "a very nice lady".
"I feel sorry for what has happened to her.
"Something happening like that, it makes you scared. You're not safe, even in your own place.
Forensic officers arrived on scene a few hours after the incident.
