Murder-suicide under investigation in Caldwell County

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- The sheriff's office was investigating a murder-suicide Wednesday afternoon in Caldwell County.

It happened around 1:00 p.m. at 4947 Brookview Place in Granite Falls.

A witness told NBC Charlotte a husband and wife lived in the house with a roommate. The witness also said she heard two shots.

Investigators believed a 72-year-old man shot his 72-year-old wife then turned the gun on himself. Both were pronounced dead on the scene. Their names have not been released.

Deputies said it was the roommate who called 911. Officers had responded to another call at the residence in the late fall of 2017.
