Federal and state officials said yesterday between 50 and 70 of Minnesota's largest grain elevators will be inspected next month. A five-member task force is being set up in the wake of the fire that destroyed Capitol Elevator No. 4 in Duluth.

Erie Mining Co. announced yesterday it will begin on Feb. 6 to call back some of the 1,700 workers who have been laid off since early December. Erie has not produced any pellets since July 31, 1977, when the United Steelworkers Union struck.

As insurance adjusters decide whether KBJR-TV's burned-out building at 230 E. Superior St. in Duluth is salvageable, station officials say they're still unsure where they will finally end up. It could be back in their old building or even in Superior, they say.

The Duluth Federation of Teachers has appealed a state agency's ruling that teachers at Duluth's Edison Project schools are not covered by the union's contract. Under state law, Edison's teachers have the option of joining a union or remaining without one.
