The Walking Dead's Midseason Premiere Will Be Supersized

The Walking Dead is no stranger to extended episode runtimes and the Season 8 midseason premiere will be one of the longest. Carl's (Chandler Riggs) farewell on Sunday, Feb. 25 will clock in at a whopping 82 minutes, TV Guide can confirm. Comicbook.com first reported the news.

82 minutes of airtime equals about 57 minutes of episode. A typical hourlong episode of The Walking Dead is between 42 and 47 minutes. The Season 8 midseason finale, "How It's Gotta Be," is the longest episode of The Walking Dead at 65 minutes (90 minutes with commercials), a tie it holds with the Season 6 premiere and finale.

The midseason premiere, the title of which has not been released yet, will mark the final appearance of Carl Grimes, the son of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), who has been with the show since Season 1 and is one of the last original cast members remaining. His death has polarized fans since it's a huge break from the story established in the comics, in which Carl is still alive and playing a major role.

The Walking Dead returns Friday, Feb. 25 at 9/8c on AMC.
