With confusion put to rest over as to who will lead the Telangana Congress party in the next elections, those in the race to head the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) seem to have realised that it is better to bargain for some seats for supporters by mending fences with the party leadership.
Sources in the Congress party revealed that it is almost certain TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy will lead the party in the next elections after AICC president Rahul Gandhi decided to continue the existing chiefs across the country. Hopefuls who were eyeing the PCC leadership for some months are now disappointed, but have smartly changed the path to have some say in getting tickets for their near and dear ones.
A senior leader said that Mr. Uttam Kumar’s efforts to reach out to his opponents also gave them some confidence about their seniority and respect was protected. New strategies of the Congress to win maximum number of seats and internal surveys giving them full confidence have also ensured that these leaders realised the need for being on the winning side.
The Congress has adopted several new strategies to consolidate in the TRS constituencies. The first step towards consolidating their winnable constituencies is to hold meetings there with all the senior leadership. The Jadcherla meeting was one of such meetings where former MP Mallu Ravi is seeking ticket. It is learnt that the party is seriously focussing on the reserved constituencies as it feels the TRS candidates are very weak there and most of them are first-time MLAs.
At a recent meeting of Gujarat MLA, Jignesh Mewani, with the TPCC President during the former’s visit to the city discussions were stated to have taken place on how the dalits were being ‘targeted’ in the TRS rule.
“We made all the mistakes that we could have made to lose the elections last time. But, now things are different and we will not let the chance go away this time,” argued a leader.
