Dua Lipa, the gorgeous singer, songwriter and former model, is the top nominee in this year’s Brit Awards. The London-born — and with Kosovo parents who brought up the 22 year old — pulled one over the likes of Ed Sheeran and ex-One Direction Liam Payne to walk away with five nods for her hit single New Rules and her self-titled debut album.
The sultry beauty who visited Manila late last 2017 while on a promo tour, has since then become one of today’s most exciting young artists. She combines strong, stylish vocals with an innate versatility that finds her going smoothly from dance to pop R&B to EDM and even laid-back acoustic ballads. And she sounds fantastic in all of them.
It is no wonder that Dua Lipa is now being touted as a most likely pop superstar, a lovely cross between Adele and Lorde. And now she has the Brits nominations to add to her reputation.
At present, Dua Lipa has big hits in tunes like New Rules, Blow Your Mind (Mwah), IDGAF, Hotter Than Hell, Last Dance and my favorite number among her ballads, Homesick, which she co-wrote with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, who also sings and plays the piano in the track. I do not think he would do that if he had no belief in her talent.
She has also collaborated with other big names and these have resulted in her strong presence in hit charts in various countries. Among these recordings are the sexy Lost In Your Light with Latino heartthrob Miguel, Scared To Be Lonely with Martin Garrix and No Lie with Sean Paul, which I am sure you will agree are two very infectious tunes with ear-candy melodies.
And now back to the Brits. Dua Lipa, whose name means love in Albanian, swept the Brits with these nominations: Best British Female Solo Artist, Breakthrough Act, MasterCard British Album of the Year, Single of the Year and Video of the Year.

Coming after Dua Lipa at the Brits is Ed Sheeran who got four nominations. These are for British Video of the Year, Male Solo Artist, MasterCard British Album of the Year and Single of the Year.
The Brits is the most prestigious and most coveted music award in the UK. The name Brits can actually mean Britain as in the country Great Britain. But those letters stand for British Record Industry Trusts Show. The awards were first given out in 1977. The awards night has since then become an annual event that the musical industry and fans look forward to every year.
The 2018 Brits Awards will be held at the 02 Arena in London on Feb. 21. Sheeran and Dua Lipa will be among the attending celebrities.
