The founder of L.A. Dance Project, Benjamin Millepied, is perhaps best known for his contributions to the haunting 2010 film “Black Swan,” in which he performed in addition to creating the choreography. Millepied also worked as artistic director for the Paris Opera Ballet before turning his focus toward the Los Angeles dance platform full time. L.A. Dance Project is known for staging performances in unconventional spaces as well as for its dedication to a collaborative process among musicians, visual artists, composers and performers.

L.A. Dance Project made its San Francisco debut on Tuesday, Jan. 23, as part of San Francisco Performances’ Pivot series and continues its Bay Area performances Friday-Saturday, Jan. 26-27, at Stanford’s Memorial Auditorium. The group plans to perform “Murder Ballades,” “Second Quartet” and “Hearts & Arrows,” which is set to music by composer Philip Glass.
