- Protesters gathered on the Delhi-Ajmer highway and burnt tyres. Sporadic violence was also reported from Rajasthan's Sikar, where a bus was stoned.
- In Mumbai, the police arrested 30 Karni Sena workers as a preventive measure; 44 others were arrested in Gujarat capital Ahmedabad.
- In Ahmedabad, the police had to open fire to disperse crowds on Tuesday night as a mall was vandalized. Wrecked cars and scooters lay around the mall in piles this morning.
- Despite the state government promise for security for the film's release tomorrow, policemen were outnumbered by a mob that burnt vehicles and smashed shop windows.
- In Gurgaon near Delhi, the state administration banned people armed with weapons and other objects "capable of causing injury" near movie theatres. Protests with slogans and placards have also banned within a 200-metre radius till Sunday.
- Many cinema owners in the mall have said they will not show the film, despite the Supreme Court ordering states to screen the movie and underscoring it yesterday.
- The Supreme Court had turned down pleas by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments and refused to modify an earlier order, that cleared the decks for the nationwide release of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film on January 25.
- Following the court order, Rajput groups turned to the Centre demanding an ordinance "within 24 hours" keeping in view "public sentiments".
- Protests took place parts of Uttar Pradesh too. In Kanpur, agitated members of a fringe outfit barged into a mall demanding a complete ban on the film.
- They tore film posters, damaged property and manhandled the mall staff, the police said.
