America's most throwable toy, the Frisbee, turns 61 years old today.

Wham-O, the toy company behind Slip 'N Slide, Silly String and Hacky Sack, released the Frisbee on Jan. 23, 1957.

Originally, the Frisbee was a tin pie dish created in Bridgeport, Connecticut by the Frisbie Pie Company in 1871, according to History.com. Students from universities around the area would throw the disc pie tins to each other, yelling "Frisbie!"
