Congress on Tuesday refocused its attention on disaster relief for Hurricane Harvey victims after being derailed by negotiations over the federal budget and a three-day government shutdown.

Legislators promise an investment in Houston and South Texas's flood control infrastructure to better prepare it for future Harvey-esque storms.

What is most likely to get legislators' attention and support?

The following document compiled by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District shows the scope of what was already in the pipeline for the Corps when Harvey hit. These "shovel-ready" projects will get priority treatment, if and when Congress acts.

Included among them are: funding of projects that will dig out and improve White Oak Bayou, Hunting Bayou and Clear Creek's ability to channel flood waters, as well as a study of the aging Addicks and Barker Dams that could result in a third dam and reservoir northwest of the two.
