A family-run care service is celebrating after receiving an ‘Outstanding’ rating in its first ever CQC inspection.
Better Care at Home, based in Dorchester, is a domiciliary care service run by Rowan Jackson and Joannah Bishop.
Founded in 2015, it offers support for people at home who need help to continue living independently and maintain their quality of life, from getting them out of bed to assisting them with their shopping.
Following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in November, the private service was praised for its "strong support systems" which helped make staff feel valued.
It also noted that staff were "exceptionally kind and caring" and went above and beyond to provide a high quality of care.
Joannah said: "We're really proud of the service we provide to the local community.
"There's only 12 of us in total and we looked after people really well. We've worked tirelessly for two years.
"The clue is in the name, we give better care from start to end. It's like we're a family."
Rowan, the service's registered manager, has been a paramedic with South Western Ambulance Service for 18 years and Joannah is well-known within the business community in Dorset.
Rowan added: "We're only successful because we've got really good staff. They're really nice people and that's important.
"We're also helping to relieve the pressures on other care services, we're making a difference."
Joannah added that staff are trained to provide emotional as well as physical support, which helps its clients who may feel anxious or nervous being in care.
A statement in the CQC report says: "Everyone spoke positively about the management of the service. There was a strong ethos of delivering high quality, person centred care.
"There were strong support systems in place for staff which enabled them to feel valued and motivated to provide high quality support to people."
