What to Watch on Wednesday: A great cast leads the new ‘Waco’ miniseries

January 24, 2018 06:45 AM

Waco (10 p.m., Spike/Paramount, CMT) – It’s the first part of this six-part dramatic series which explores the untold story behind the 51-day siege between the FBI, ATF and David Koresh’s spiritual sect, The Branch Davidians, in Waco, Texas, in 1993. The Oscar-nominated Michael Shannon plays FBI negotiator Gary Noesner and Taylor Kitsch (“Friday Night Lights”) plays David Koresh. John Leguizamo, Rory Culkin and Paul Sparks (he was Billy Graham in “The Crown”) also star. (Note: The Spike Channel is being rebranded as Paramount Network, so your onscreen guide could say either one.)

Also on tonight . . .

This Is Us (7 p.m., WRAL) – This episode – which we hope involves the family going out to buy batteries for the smoke detector and also a time machine to save Jack – is really from last night, but got bumped because of basketball.

Let’s Get Physical (8:30 p.m., Pop) – A new scripted comedy inspired by the ’80s aerobics craze starring the hilarious Matt Jones (“Breaking Bad,” “Mom”), Jane Seymour, Chris Diamantopoulos and AnnaLynne McCord.

9-1-1 (9 p.m., Fox) – Bobby and the team race to help the survivors of a deadly plane crash, and Athena is out for revenge against the teens who bullied her daughter.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace (10 p.m., FX) – In the second installment, Andrew Cunanan arrives in Miami to stalk fashion designer Gianni Versace. Remember, this series pretty much runs in reverse chronological order.
