Slum dwellers take the line they have been living on the land for many years

A tense situation prevailed at Ramamurthypanthulupeta when the railway authorities evicted encroachments near the flyover on Tuesday.

The slum dwellers said that they have been living there for the past several years. The authorities evicted them without issuing any notice or showing them alternative land. Some of them argued with the railway police and others found fault with the elected people’s representatives for not coming to their rescue.

Meanwhile, the railway officials noted in a statement that several instructions were given to the encroachers of Gandhinagar Colony, near Kancharapalem flyover, to shift. But they failed to heed them. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager G. Suneel Kumar said that the land was undisputed and the encroachers had always demanded time to vacate the land. Instead of vacating, it was noticed that there was a substantial increase in the number of encroachments.
