LAKE WALES — Lake Wales defeated Hardee 8-0 in a Girls 3A District 11 Soccer Semifinal Tuesday night here at Legion Field.
Junior Haileigh Houmard led the way with three first-half goals.
Sophomore Delany Elder collected two goals and also had an assist.
Freshman Chanley Pfingston scored a goal and also had an assist.
The Highlanders wasted no time scoring within three minutes of the opening kickoff when Elder scored at the 36:25 mark.
At 27:56, Houmard scored the first of three goals for a 2-0 lead.
Senior Charlee Lutton then scored on a free kick from about 27 yards at 25:25 for a 3-0 lead.
Moments later Hourmard stoled the ball and scored at 20:08. With an assist from Pfingston, Hourmard completed the hat-trick scoring at 11:15, providing Lake Wales a 5-0 halftime lead
Elder earned her second goal of the night at 36:09 of the second half for a 6-0 lead.
Pfingston scored at 26:39 and the Highlanders led 7-0.
Isabella Rojas scored bringing the game to a close (FHSAA Mercy Rule) at 22:05 of the second half.
“We played very well,” said Lake Wales coach Michael Flood.
“I tried to play a lot of people and some at different positions giving many a chance to contribute. It is fun to see some of these girls going for their fourth straight district championship.”
Hardee concluded its season at 1-12-3, while Lake Wales (14-4-2) advanced to the District final to be played at Lake Wales Thursday against the Poinciana-Sebring winner.
