‘Cricket Kutcheri’ to be held on Thursday

It is that time of the year when musicians wield the willow and walk on to the pitch to the delight of cheering rasikas.

For over 15 years now, it has been tradition to hold a one-day cricket match after the hectic December music season.

This year’s ‘Cricket Kutcheri’ will be held from 7 a.m. at SPIC YMCA ground, Lotus Colony, Nandanam, on Thursday, said a press release here.

This year, musicians from film industry too will join the fun event that is being organised by Carnatica.

The four teams will be captained by Chitravina N. Ravikiran, P. Unnikrishnan, K.N. Shashikiran and Vijay Yesudas. The format will be as follows: Four 10-over matches will be played between the four teams and the two winners will play the 10-over finals.

Man of the Match awards, as well as a Man of the Series award will be presented.

Additional awards will be given for the best bowler, best batsman, best fielder and best all-rounder. These will be selected by the spectators.

Entry to the matches is free, the release added.

Carnatica founder K.N.Shashikiran said that while most musicians were passionate about cricket, not everyone played the sport on a regular basis. “Many of us are on fitness workouts to get into shape. The game brings together musicians and helps us relax after a busy schedule,” he said.
