Mumbai: The benchmark BSE Sensex opened lower on Wednesday after a five-session record-setting spree as investors cashed profits in metal, capital goods, consumer durables, power and banking shares ahead of January month expiry in the derivatives segment, PTI reported. Brokers said investors turned cautious and preferred to log gains at record levels ahead of tomorrow’s January expiry in the derivatives segment, pulling down the key indices from record highs. Besides, a weak trend at most of other Asian markets too weighed on the sentiments here, they added. Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors bought shares worth a net Rs1,229.35 crore, while domestic institutional investors made purchases to the tune of Rs169.03 crore on Tuesday, provisional data showed. 11.40 am IST Essar Shipping shares gain on receipt of new orderEssar Shipping Ltd said its unit Essar Oilfield Services India Ltd received a Rs32 crore contract from ONGC. Shares rose 1.74% to Rs29.25.
11.38 am IST Shriram Transport Finance to sell stake in Shriram AutomallShriram Transport Finance Co. Ltd said Shriram Automall India Ltd signed a share purchase agreement with MXC Solutions India Pvt. Ltd under which the latter with buy equity shares of Shriram Automall India. Shriram Transport shares traded 0.86% lower to Rs1456.
11.35 am IST Indiabulls Housing Finance shares fall after Q3 resultIndiabulls Housing Finance Ltd shares traded 0.58% lower at Rs1371.40. The company on Tuesday said its net profit rose to Rs1,168 crore in the quarter ended 31 December from Rs751.5 crore a year ago.

10.28 am IST PNB Housing Finance shares rise on Q3 profitPNB Housing Finance Ltd rose 2.2% to Rs1,329.70 after the company said its net profit rose 58% to Rs217.50 crore while revenues from operations rose 44% to Rs1,438.50 crore.
9.43 am IST L&T Technology shares rise on Q3 resultL&T Technology Services Ltd rose 7.5% to Rs1,090 after the company reported a net profit of Rs126 crore in December quarter, up 2% from a year ago. Revenue was up 7.5% to Rs969 crore.
9.40 am IST United Spirits shares decline as profit falls in December quarterUnited Spirits Ltd fell 5.7% to Rs3,535.90 after the company reported lower-then-expected earnings. The company reported a 9% decline in its December quarter net profit to Rs135 crore from Rs148 crore a year ago. Analysts on an average estimated a profit of 2.02 billion rupees, according to Thomson Reuters
9.37 am IST RBL Bank shares fall as NPAs rise in Q3RBL Bank Ltd fell 4.1% to Rs514.30 after the bank reported a rise in its bad loans. Its gross non performing assets rose to 1.56% in December quarter from 1.44% from a quarter ago.
9.35 am IST Rupee trades higher against US dollarThe Indian rupee opened higher against US dollar on Wednesday as foreign investors continued to buy in local equity and debt market. The rupee opened at 63.75 a dollar, and was trading at 63.66 a dollar, up 0.19% from its Tuesday’s close of 63.78. The 10-year bond yield was at 7.241% compared to its previous close of 7.253%.
