Mumbai: One person was killed and three were injured after their car lost control and crashed into the divider on Ghodbunder Road in Thane on Tuesday morning.
According to the Chitalsar police, six employees from an accounting firm decided to skip work and go for a drive in Thane. They hired a Maruti Ertiga, and left Mumbai at around 7 a.m..
“Near Cine Wonder Mall, the car tried to change lanes to overtake a bus, but lost control and skidded to the right, crashing into the divider. The incident occurred at around 8 a.m.. The high speed of the vehicle caused a drastic impact,” said an officer with Chitalsar police station. The Ertiga bounced off and careened into the middle of the road before grinding to a halt. Passing motorists helped the occupants out, and arranged for ambulances and took them to Jupiter Hospital in Thane.
The driver, Mehtab Qureshi (20), sustained injuries to his head and torso, and was declared dead before admission. Saqib Sheikh (21), Farukh Ansari (20), and Rabya Sheikh (21) are in hospital, while the rest have been discharged.
The police, after recording statements of eyewitnesses and the injured, have posthumously booked Qureshi for causing death and injury due to rash and negligent driving under the IPC and the Motor Vehicles Act. The accident held up traffic for over an hour.
